Morinaga was founded in 1899, making it Japan's oldest Western-style confectionery company. Over 125 years it has produced some of Japan's most enduring products: Dars chocolate, sold in small cubes of unusual smoothness; Hi-Chew, the chewy fruit candy that has since conquered international markets; and Morinaga Caramel, a product so fundamental to Japanese snacking culture that it borders on the institutional. The company has been doing this longer than almost anyone else in Japan, and the product quality reflects that.
